With the exception of a couple of times, the fields have NOT been dragged after the games. Footprints in the infield dirt turn into craters if left unattended. It is very important that the fields get dragged by the appropriate tool after each and every game. This duty is to be done by the visiting team at the completion of their scheduled game. In the cases that the game is against an outside guest it is then therefore the responsibility of the home team to drag the field.
The very expensive, thick tarps that cover the the home plate and the mound serve a very necessary purpose. Those areas are made of clay and topped with dirt. If the tarps are left off it causes the clay to dry up and crack. This creates more work and expense for UTLL crews. The tarps come in 2 different sizes. The smaller one covers the mound and the larger covers home plate area. If the larger one gets put on the mound it hangs over the designated area covering the grass. This can cause the grass to burn in case of extreme heat and sun or not allow the grass to grow. This is detrimental even if done for only 1 day.
Rules and safety state that the tarps and weights are to be placed outside of the field of play during games. This means outside of the fenced area. The tarps should be folded nicely, not crumpled, so that they are easier to handle and are less of a hazard.
Coordinators:
Please take all necessary steps in scheduling your teams volunteers to ensure this takes place.
Catapult style machines are located in the equipment shed. They can be used for practices and obviously for games. If there are any mechanical issues with them please let me know so that it can be addressed.
The electric JUGS machines are located in the boxes at the far ends of the batting cages. There are legs and extension cords in the boxes as well. Please put away when done and ensure the boxes are closed properly.
