  • 2010 All Star Selection Process

    UTLL fields 3 All Star teams to compete in the District One All Star Tournaments. Each team is made up of players by age group. Selecting the players is a higly structured process. Little League USA sets the roster size and each league uses a selection process, guided by Little League USA, to select the team members. For more information please contact President Mike Hoh.

    This year the selection process that UTLL used is as follows. 

    For the 12 year old all star team, all four American League coaches are asked to submit a ballot to the board, ranking, (in their opinion), the top 14 players.  14 points given to the player they think is best, and descending in order from there.  The board also issues ballots to all players in the American League.  In this vote, the players select the 14 players, (in no particular order), they feel should represent them at all stars.  All of the player votes are added up, and the top 14 are given a score from 14 to 1, (much the same as one coach's ballot).  The coach's ballots are then tabulated, and the players with the top 12 scores are preliminarily selected for the all star team.  The player's ballot is compared to the coach's total, to confirm that there are no glaring contradictions between the coaches and players.  Finally the board reviews the voting process to determine that the voting was fair.   

    The selection process is the same for the 11 year old all star team, with exception of the player's vote. The selection process is the same for the 10 year old all star team, with exception of the player's vote, and the coaches voting are from the Northern League.  Given the fact that all American and National League teams play in outside post season tournaments, (extending their seasons of play), the UTLL will form a second 10 year old all star team to offer extended play for more 10 year olds.  This second 10 year old team is made up of players scoring 13th through 24th in the 10 year old voting process.  The team will play in a tournament hosted by Glen Lake in July. UTLL will also select two 9 year old all star teams to again offer extended play for more players.  The Northern League coaches use the same voting process as stated above.  However, since both teams will be playing in the same tournament, (hosted by Crystal Little League), the top 24 vote getters will be distributed with equal talent between the two teams. Coaches for these teams are selected as follows.  Once the preliminary results are established, head coaches from their respective leagues with players on these teams are approached by the board to be considered as head, and assistant coach.  After all coaches have expressed their wishes, the board selects the coaches for each team.
